ARCHIVE 2009:
Phuture Motion CD Artwork: Dec 2009
Sheffield's own Phuture Motion approached me a couple of months ago to help them out with their CD album artwork. After listening to their stuff I was amazed, if anyone listens to Ninja Tunes and other sorts of electronica will appreciate the style that Phuture Motion work by, with their samples and musical references reflecting a latino beat with a lot of depth.
Their album is titled "The Thief" and as I was given an open brief to produce artwork for the booklet and CD backing, I thought the images of magpies suited the concept, being that their music is based around references and taking theiir favourite parts of other music, the rest is self explanatory.
The CD will be released on Freestyle Records early 2010.

Christmas Card Collaboration: Dec 2009
For this year I'd collaborated with stylist, Natasha Lyons and photographer James Brown on a promotional Christmas card to send out to clients. It seemed quite fun to do as James and Natasha presented to me their chosen image they wanted me to illustrate over and around, the end result is something I've always wanted to try out, mixing photography with drawing.

DQ Indoor Wall Art: Nov 2009
I was given the opportunity to ply my illustration style in the form of an indoor mural for Sheffield night club, DQ on fitzwilliam street. DQ has been undergoing a refurbishment for the new year and the owners asked me to get involved. The brief was a simple one, they wanted a "wave" to go along the back wall, this was right up my street. This was going to be the biggest commision I'd ever physically worked on as it spanned 25metres across the back wall of the main room.

At the moment I'm compiling a video file to show the process of the painting as it added up for at least 9 days of work! The look of the organic wave runnning through the back wall is very subtle especially when the lights are dimmed and the black lights and UV action is on the go.

Hantu Winter Collection: Nov 2009
The new collection is out and online finally. This season I'd gone for everyone's favourite winter animal choices. The new range includes, mostly t-shirts, sweatshirts and long vests and can be bought from Arcade or online at www.thehantucollective.com.
I have to give a big thanks to my models, Grace and Aaron and also from photographer James Brown at iso25 and stylist Natasha Lyons.
October Updates: Oct/ Nov 2009
Sadly I didn't win the Swishswosh T-shirt design competition but I did make it within the top 10, so a big thank you to all who voted and bought the t-shirt!. In other news I have a big project planned out with Sheffield nightclub DQ which I'll keep hush hush for now. Photos and video will be uploaded all in due time.
Currently in the Hantu Workshop residing in Arcade I have successfully finished the new collection of Hantu Clothing prints. More details of which to follow, it's always exciting waiting for the printers! Over the coming months you'll see me alot in Arcade so pop in and say hey!
Be on the lookout for a zine in circulation put together by fellow illustrator, Sam Brewster. I have submitted a few illustrations for it and also looking forward to seeing how they come about. Check out his work here.
But first I have a week in Prague to look forward to, then it's back to work!
Birthday Thanks & Swish Swosh!: Sep 2009
Just a quick one to say thanks for a good birthday weekend, I had fun, and my collaborator Jane Faram also had fun putting up the exhibition in the Forum, so there will be photos circulating soon!
On another note, I'm happy to announce my t-shirt design which I'd submitted to the swishswosh competition has been selected within the Top 10! So get buying away, the tees are going for £12, not too shabby eh?

The Bowery Sheffield: Sep 2009
The good lads at the Bowery bar in Sheffield have roped me in to help out with some of their flyer designs, posters and cocktail menu. They've got a nice friendly vibe with the added cool of having Sheffield's well known musicians hanging out in there too. Have a gander at my flyer and poster I've done for them in the Work section.
Portugal. The Man Gig Poster: Aug 2009
My poster design for the October gig at the Shakespeare. This took me ages to do as I'd gone through probably 5 different ideas to no satisfaction. I'm quite pleased with this one though.

Common Room T-shirt Print: Aug 2009
I was commisioned to design a promotional t-shirt for the Common Room for their fresher's week giveaways. This design was basically an idea I've had for a while to tie into other design ideas stored in my head. At first I wanted to create a crest within the heart, but the simplicity of this design needed no extras in my opinion. Can't wait till I get my hands on one of these!

Sneak Preview For September:
The Forum have asked me to put some more work up in their bar to display from Sept 13th, my birthday. So heres one of the pieces from my portraiture collection, which is still yet to be completed. My work with local illustrator Jane Faram and my collaboration with photographer Georgina Martin will also be displayed at the same time. Definetly watch this space...

Tramlines - SOYO Live: Jul 2009
The next day it was SOYO Live but this time I was nursing a hangover after watching a few bands the previous night. This time my drawing partner was Jane Faram, I'm currently working with her on a self initiated project, which I won't reveal yet until September time. This was alot fo fun though, as we were just doodling away and it proved to be a good hangover cure, that and the beer of course!

Tramlines - The Washington Pub: Jul 2009
The next day our next stop was The Washington Pub where we'd be drawing outdoors, lucky for us it was a nice sunny day. I enjoyed this, cans of red stripe and drawing and a good vibe. Earlier that morning I was struggling to work out what I was going to draw... I knew that at The Washington, it'd mainly be electronic music, so I drew a robot, simple. I was a big fan of Billy's piece next to mine, she's good company to draw with so I look forward to more live art events with her.

Tramlines - The Bowery: Jul 2009
After a good nights sleep from the Plug night, me and Billy were asked to come in early at the Bowery to decorate one of their pillars in the bar. We obliged and for the first time collaborated together which was fun.

Then later that night, I drew this in a packed room with some good bands playing, most notably Little Lost David and Lemon Tear Gas. A good intro night to the festival.

PLUG Jump Around Night: Jul 2009
Since the Don't Party event at SOYO Live, there's been alot of interest for more Live art events. The organisers at Plug got in touch with me, Billy & Lord Bunn about drawing at their Jump Around Club night. We thought why not? We needed a nice warm up for Tramlines Festival which was around the corner.

Common Room Light Box Display Up: Jul 2009
It's finally been made and put up! One of my first signage designs shining brightly.

Tramlines Festival Poster: Jul 2009
Tramlines Festival is Sheffield's outdoor music festival and the first of its kind in the city. The main artwork was devised by Sheffield's favourite local artist, Pete McKee who's work is quite iconic around the city. On theother hand I was asked to do some bits and bobs for the Bowery and a Tramlines Venue poster so I didn't mind a good spot of exposure. Through out the festival I've been asked to take part in live drawing in various venues. Time to refill some pens...

ARCADE: Jun 2009
Me and The Hantu Collective boys have moved into a shop space in Sheffield's Forum on Devonshire Street with the former owner of Kuji, Joe Blackwell. Arcade is the place to buy your birthday pressies with neat little things like Samurai Sword umbrellas, mini novelty speakers, knuckleduster mugs and of course limited edition Hantu Collective T-shirt prints. You just have to see it to believe it. In the main room the stencil mural paste up was done by another of the shop's partners, Jay Jazz Hope. In the smaller room of the shop we have our on sight printing equipment so we can customise your t-shirt prints and even design one from scratch by yours truely. Basically I'm based in the shop most of the week which is alot of fun but alot of good grafting, so pop in and say hi if you're passing by!
Don't Party @ SOYO Live: Jun 2009
This was alot of fun, although I managed to do more drinking than drawing... it was nice to see my old uni buddy Alex Godwin (Billy) join in the fun live drawing and she didn't disappoint either.

Don't Party!!!: Jun 2009
Sheffield won't know what hit it afterJune the 8th with Don't Party at SOYO Live . I've been involved with the poster and flyer designs and on the night I'll be joining Leeds Art Collective Best Joined Up, drawing on wooden boards. It should be interesting night of art and music, best of all, its free... free I tells ya!

Color Ink Book: May 2009
A few months ago I was asked on Myspace by an American based Art Collective to submit work to their publication. Color Ink Book has a nice following on the West Coast and judging from their event photos, these guys are spot on. This arrived in the post for me which was a very pleasant surprise.

Don't Panic Dispenser Part 3: May 2009

Don't Panic Dispenser Part 2: May 2009
Box number 2. I'm happy with the back of the box.

SOYO Live: May 2009
Sheffield's new bar SOYO Live invited the Hantu Collective boys and girls to come down and contribute to their live events nights on Mondays. For the launch they managed to pull in many local musicans, notably Little Lost David, Neil McSweeny, Party Horse and Sarah Morrey. We on the otherhand can't do music, but we can print t-shirts on the night, and we can also draw pictures on the spot for people to see, on the night artwork was sold on the spot as it was drawn and t-shirts were printed by keen customers, I also designed a one off Hantu - SOYO Live Design, which could only be bought on the night. Lovely.
All Photos were kindly snapped by Georgina Martin and Sophie Jepson.

Don't Panic Sheffield: May 2009
Incase fellow Sheffielder's haven't realised yet, Don't Panic have now set up shop in Sheffield and dropping envelopes on your door! Or better yet they're leaving the envelopes in little wooden boxes in bars and cool little shops and boutiques.Guess who they asked to draw on a couple...? Here's one of the finished boxes and I'm still inking up the next one as you read this.

Bang Bang Vintage: May 2009
May has been a busy month for me but enjoyable all the same. I was asked by the lovely shopkeepers at Bang Bang Vintage to spruce up their logo design and also as an added bonus, to help them re-design their instore paper bags. After a big exchange of ideas and emails, we came to these design solutions.

House of Suga Launch Liverpool: May 2009
Wednesday 6th of May was the official launch of a new upcoming fashion label hailing from Liverpool. Formed from a bunch of ambitious ladies, House of Suga looks to underpin itself into couture mad buyers. I was commisioned to help design some t-shirts for their mens and womens ranges. The event was held in the beautiful Anglican Cathedral which was cavernous and pretty much awe inspiring. FashionTV were also present at the launch and guess who they collared for an interview? Yup, me! Other than thatI will also be working on their future collections so be on the look out...

Sheffield Craft Mafia Spring Fair: May 2009
The Craft Mafia is the brain child of three of Sheffield's up and coming businesses of Lois, Fancie Cupcakes and Bang Bang Vintage and will be holding their 4th craft fair at Sheffield's Basement Bar on West Street. I will be working alongside my colleagues selling Hantu Collective T-shirt prints on the day. Here's the flyer I designed for the event.
Common Room Display Lightbox: Apr 2009:
In the heart of Sheffield theres a pretty nice pool bar I go to, often to hustle the locals! I was delighted when the Common Room got in touch with me to help them redesign their display lightboxes, which as they put it was pretty out of date. After a couple of weeks I came out with this design to which they were all happy with. Now I just cant wait until they install it, keep a look out when walking past The Forum on Division Street...

I Dress Myself T-shirt Competition Apr 2009:
Hayley who heads the Happy Happy Poster Club in Nottingham pointed me to the direction of a t-shirt competition by the Notts based screen printers, I Dress Myself. The brief simply said, "birds", after hours of contemplating getting way too clever with this, I stuck with something alot more simple.

Hantu Collective: Sweet Dream's Fashion Show Mar 2009
This years show took place in Player's Bar on Sheffield's West Street. This time my involvement in the organisation wasn't as hectic so I was allowed time to work on a new collection of t-shirt prints and on the night, provide "live art" next o the stage. This turned out to b very fun. I have to thank Georgina Martin for providing some nice shots from the night. Hopefully I'll be able to upload more images of the new collection very soon.

Artwork at The Forum Cafe: Mar 2009
From Monday 2nd of March, my new collection of drawings and poster prints will be exhibited at The Forum Cafe in Sheffield's city center. I'm quite happy the manager pulled me in to put my work in there as its a place I enjoy my tea and newspaper. Anyhow here's a couple of the top secret pieces I'd been working on since December...

Hantu Collective: Sweet Dream Charity Fashion Show Mar 2009
Well it is upon us again. No sooner did I return to the UK the boys at Hantu Collective were hollering at putting together another show, just like the one before I left for Prague. So here we are this time, bigger venue, more fashion labels and more gusto! I've been busy working on new prints for the fashion show and they're being kept under wraps until Sunday 1st of March...

new msg Greetings Cards: Jan 2009
Happy New Year! A time for celebration and new beginnings and there had been no better start for me than receiving my card samples from "new msg" a fashion led greetings card company based in Nottingham. I've uploaded some of the designs to the WORK section of the website. Hopefully these will be hitting more stores around the UK, keep your eyes peeled.
